3 Don’ts for Quick Weight Loss
> Get Summer Ready
> Avoid these fads
It’s getting to that time of year when people are starting to try desperate methods to shift weight in time for holidays.
Whilst some methods work, there’s definitely better ways to go about it.
Many people are caught out after the New Year rush and now back peddling to catch up for what’s been missed.
At the end of the day, if moderation is your goal (despite the pace being a frustration) you can’t go too far wrong.
1) Starvation
The most common way for people to lose weight is starvation. Not only is this ineffective over the long term but it’s also highly dangerous to health.
Starvation means that the body seeks the next available energy supply (which happens to be muscle). So if you’re going for a healthy look, this isn’t the way to go about it.
Furthermore, it also leads to low blood pressure, extreme fatigue, exhaustion, light headedness and other health complications.
By all means, review what you eat but don’t be silly about it and go to zero.
Reducing calorific intake sensibly and over time will have a much more sustainable effect (besides more enjoyable than being hangry!)
Skipping meals and eating infrequently will cause havoc for your blood sugar levels: Making concentrating and maintaining energy levels a nightmare.
2) Overload
The other extreme with exercise is to do too much.
Working out every day (sometimes twice) at a high intensity will lead to burnout for the untrained athlete.
Replacing what you eat, resting and recovering are vital parts of the cycle.
Expending energy and starving yourself is highly dangerous: the best you can hope for is fainting if that’s your strategy.
As always, start with a moderate routine, build it up and progress as you feel comfortable.
You wouldn’t start a car in fifth gear so think about what you’re doing to your health (particularly over the longer term).
3) Dieting
Another common tactic is to follow the fitness fad of the moment.
Normally these are a “new” or “improved” diet that is guaranteed to work.
Often these are gimmicky and aimed at the people most susceptible. Question what you see. I would recommend getting your nutrition evaluated to get a truly personalised plan – RYPT provides free nutritional consultations, simply check out the website below.
