Gym Newbies Mistakes
- Avoid these basic errors
- Beginner’s fitness help
It's officially January and everybody is on a health kick (or so it seems it), so before you rush into a new gym environment have a read of this week's free RYPT blog.
Today was my first gym session of 2020 and it's clear that there are new faces. As much as I would love to give pointers in the gym, without being in PT clothing it's difficult. I do feel sympathy for new goers as most of us have been there and know how difficult it is. On the other hand, not asking for help is only a hindrance and one of my biggest regrets when I started.
Competency
The ideal workout would be one based on proficient movements and a structured plan. You can always tell the newbies by the lack of structure and breaking fundamental rules.
Stick with a smaller amount of exercises but performed well, full range of movement and appropriate weight.
If in doubt always seek the guidance of a fitness professional. Many of the services offered are actually free and you'll be surprised at the difference it can make.
Structure
A weight training workout should never begin with smaller muscles groups. For example, you shouldn't be going straight onto abdominal or bicep exercises, these should be right at the very end once you've earned up properly.
Know how many sets and repetitions you will be doing so you aren't just improvising. In this day and age it's easy to access online content to help. Furthermore, the RYPT app is designed to be a personal trainer in your pocket wherever and whenever you workout.
Doing too much isn't productive. Have a plan for what you're working and depending on how many gym sessions you'll be hitting will depend on how your weight training program is broken down.
Progression
You shouldn't be starting with heavy weights. The aim is to progress in a sustainable manner. Range of movement and technique are the most important parts.
Progression will happen slowly but that's where the motivation comes from. Be patient and enjoy the progress.
Get the basics right, hit your goals and begin to create a routine around your training. This is the way to get guaranteed results.
Etiquette
The gym may have the perception of an uncivilised place, however there are rules to follow.
Basics like putting your weights away, asking others if they are finished with equipment before storming in and wiping down equipment are simple things to do.
Courtesy and respect for the gym environment will make a big difference and make the gym a better place for everybody.
RYPT is built on the foundations of sustainability, moderation and enjoyment. As you can see, these are pivotal factors in health and wellbeing. Unlike other training systems, RYPT is about YOU, by listening to your goals I will personally build a custom training plan that is optimised for your enjoyment.
