How to Lose Weight without Lifting a Weight: Breathing

  • Simple changes, maximum effect
  • Learn the real secrets of fitness

My main goal with RYPT was to create fitness that is sustainable, in moderation, enjoyable and also helps improve lives via education without taking short cuts!

Enlightening the actual truth about fitness is far more powerful than copying what other people do and hoping it works: understanding is the real deal breaker.

Lesson 2) Breathing

It wasn’t until recently that I discovered the power of using what we already have to improve your health: breathing.

If nothing else, it’s something that few people pay attention to. However, if you think about it, it’s the primary means for supplying your body with what it needs to live.

Physiologically, most people’s breathing is the antithesis of being relaxed…

Hunching forward, short breaths, lack of abdominal muscle engagement, faster heart rate and chest based breathing all are symptomatic of a stressful response.

By doing this subconsciously over a prolonged period of time it will have an impact on your overall health.

Stress, as we know, impacts many aspects of our health. The increase in blood pressure and heightened cortisol level mean that the body breaks down health muscle.

It will affect your digestion too and leads to the body storing energy as fat (in an effort to preserve itself).

Cortisol is associated with decay and will impact your wellbeing so anything you can do to reduce this is a bonus.

This is why meditation works for so many people because it takes them from one extreme to another.

The prime focus of meditation is to slow the breathing and become self aware. Modern life is so hectic that we don’t feel as if we have the time for these and therefore they get neglected.

I know meditation doesn’t work for everyone and few people will actually try it but even the mindfulness version is worth a go. The most popular / accessible version of this is Headspace (via an app) which provides short, focused meditation and let’s you sample what it can do. The best part is that it’s free!

Even dedicating five minutes before bed will do wonders (especially if you struggle to sleep).

Nothing ventured, nothing gained so give it a go!

Remember, RYPT is about sustainability, moderation and enjoyment! There are no fads or shortcuts, just facts.
