How to…Make Fitness Fun

  • Ideas to enjoy getting active
  • No more boring routines…

And no, it doesn’t include “not doing anything!”

There are a couple of things you can do to ensure that you enjoy your fitness routine. If you can do this, then you can ensure that you get better results too.

Unfortunately, most people’s fitness plans end up in the bin due to detesting their routine, here’s how to ensure that doesn’t happen!

1) Try something new

This could be a new sport, activity or something off-the-wall. Whatever it is, enjoying a social environment can also push you further to achieving your goals.

Having events or competitions to aspire to is not only a personal challenge but gives your training an extra edge. This could be a new sport. I took up running for enjoyment and have ran many races since (whilst I didn’t think I was that competitive, it soon becomes the case).

It soon becomes an addiction and the more you are interested in your chosen activity, the more reward you will get from it.

2) TrackIng

Having goals along the way is vital. If you only do the same thing on repeat, then you’ll soon grow tired of it.

However you want to track your fitness, ensure that you set mini goals: it could be steps per day, heart rate average, weights lifted or time. Whatever it is, aim to improve and compete against yourself / others.

You can track in any number of ways! App’s, manual recording, using devices: do whatever you need to do.

Once you have that accountability, you have the primary mechanism of getting fit. Knowing you have a target makes it far easier to get motivated. Merely meandering through a session is not the most productive way to get healthy: plus you can achieve more in half the time.

3) Make it part of your routine

The thought of going for a run in the dark after a ten hour shift at work is not always appealing. However, running on your lunchbreak or cycling to work ensures that you stay fit as part of your lifestyle.

It’s the simplest and most effective method of keeping in shape. Plus activity like walking is free and can be done to relax (which is another massive boost). I find that cardiovascular activity clears my head and helps me to focus a lot more.

Look for new ways to incorporate things into your routine. You will save money (on fuel) and feel so much better by the time you arrive back in the office.
