How to Save Money Getting Fit
- Spend less, get more
- Proven tactics
It seems that people have a perception that getting fit needs to be expensive – that’s not the case.
If you follow any of my channels, you’ll know that my advice is about saving time, money and effort (if you don’t, then now is a good excuse to follow, like or subscribe).
Spending a large amount of money on an investment (which may or not pay off) is not as lucrative as buying a DVD or a nice meal. The reward is not instantaneous and this can be a deterrent.
It was yesterday that I took my cousin. on a visit to my local gym and despite the usual membership spiel, the benefits were numerous. Obviously a gym membership they try to sell on the extras (like sauna, health spa, cafe, discount vouchers and other offers).
Despite all of these, the end goal is to secure a contract.
Gyms have always worked on the principle on non attendance. If everyone turned up, there wouldn’t enough space, let alone equipment.
This principle (that you are paying for a service) should encourage usage but often it gets neglected. Ultimately it becomes a waste of money in the long run if not used – and an expensive waste of money at that.
There are very few gyms that you can attend that have pay as you go options (without the hassle of a sales tour or induction). So just how can you get fitter for less?
One option could be a home gym. Here are my recommendations on building a home gym in my RYPT Vlog (remember to subscribe to the YouTube channel for the latest videos)…
I would recommend getting to know what you are doing if you join a gym. Therefore, for the cost of less than a personal training, you could have a personal trainer in your pocket whenever, wherever you workout!
That’s right, £40 a month flat rate and you can have a personalised workout plan with full support.
The good news is, even without a gym membership, you can have a home workout plan on the app too.
No endless months of one to one training, a simple yet effective plan to guarantee you results!

I’ve often found that cheaper / budget gyms provide surprisingly great facilities and everything you need. Having worked in a variety of gyms, the best couple were under £30 per month!
So look around and you will be pleasantly surprised. Spending more doesn’t always equate to a better facility.
On the other hand, location should be a primary consideration. Are you really going to travel an extra 30 minutes across town for a gym compared to one that’s on your route home? Some people will but it’s easier to make excuses for not going.
There are more things you can do to get healthier for less!
Other than the usual advice of taking up more cardio like walking, cycling and general activity, you can do more.
My general advice of drinking more water, eating more protein (although more expensive initially) and being conscious of sitting too long, all apply here too.
Have a look at the latest RYPT blogs for all the best tips on how to start fitness for less money.
Fresh air is always great and I would advise outdoor cardio over treadmills etc as the benefits are greater (albeit a bit tougher and more enjoyable).
It was how I got into fitness and certainly improved my all round health faster than running or cycling in a gym (which I hated).
At the end of the day, if you are going to commit to something then it is good value for money. You cannot out a price on your health as it is an investment with time too.
If you love what you do then you will stick with it. Alternatively, if you are unsure, I would recommend a trial before signing up (but ensure that you take full advantage of the services on offer to decide definitively).
