Nutrition Explained: BMR

  • Improve your wellness instantly
  • Nutritional concepts examined

I appreciate that getting in getting fit there can be alien concepts and that there are lots of confusing terms and widespread jargon.

If you read my recent blogs you’ll know that I hate gym myths that are perpetuated.

BMR

(Basal Metabolic Rate)

Perhaps one most of the most under-utilised aspects of fitness (despite all the technological innovation) is this one very simple aspect.

The Basal Metabolic Rate is such a simple yet effective concept that can be used to improve your fitness instantly. Almost every diet app uses it, yet few understand what it is.

Ultimately, this is the minimum amount of calories that you require on a daily basis for the body to function effectively. This doesn’t include calories added on for exercise or activity.

Essentially it will give you an idea of what you should be aiming for. It is the secret that these weight loss companies use (however albeit skewed due to a naive attitude about calories).

There are numerous calculations that you can use but a simple Internet search will allow you to see exactly where you should be aiming for.

Use this one to give you an idea…

If you have read many of the previous blogs, you will know that I detest the idea of calories. This is mainly because not all calories are created equal and they are not based on health merit. I’ll go into this in more detail soon.

As a baseline, this number will help you with your fitness goals.

Obviously, if you exercise or do anything for that matter, then you will need to add extra calories.

It is also vital that, if you wish to lose weight, you create a healthy calorie deficit of no more than 15% reduction on BMR and exercise added.

Anything more than this is not healthy or sustainable! You need to know the perimeters of what works.

RYPT provides tailored Nutritional plans (developed in conjunction with you and for your individual needs).
