If, like me, you've found this week challenging from a fitness standpoint, then there's plenty of opportunity to get back on track.
It's important not to get bogged down in the past as there's nothing that can be changed.
One of the greatest mindset tips I was ever taught is that there is no unhappiness, sadness or pain in the present moment.
Unless you've simultaneously been hit by a truck as you read this.
However, all problems are perceptions of what will happen and projections of the future.
By concentrating on the present moment and particularly breathing / mindfulness you are able to remove most of the negative thoughts. See previous blogs for more on this or research "Headspace."
This is also applicable to the long term with fitness. The end goal is inevitably to feel better, fitter and stronger.
Before you get too far ahead of yourself, it's about the results of the present moment. By being present in the moment, you're able to focus on getting the best results.
It's easy to become overwhelmed by what you think you need to do. However, in truth success is the consummation of all the small efforts.
I've found that when I really have little motivation to train, even starting with a lesser intention means that I soon get into the full swing. Mentally it's tiring to train after work / a long day but once you start it's much easier and you'll not regret it.
Once you have your head in the right zone, you'll not only enjoy the present moment but you'll be absorbed by the results. Remember, the biggest competition with fitness is against yourself!
